Mini, year by year
- Data DfT and DVLA, VEH0160 and VEH0120; DVSA MOT
- Covers Cars, Great Britain and United Kingdom
- Updated the latest quarter
Every new Mini registered in Great Britain since 2004, one year at a time, down a road that widens in the good years and narrows in the lean ones.
The road so far
The road’s width is the number of new Minis that year. A pink marker is a year with something new. Bars use the same scale all the way down.
Models are DVLA’s: convertibles, coupés and other bodies count with their hatch, and the Challenge, GT, Inspired and Paddy Hopkirk editions are counted together. The Classic Mini is Rover’s original: a few dozen a year are still registered here for the first time, mostly imports. A model counts as on sale in a year with at least 100 new cars, or a fifth of its best year if that’s fewer (so a supercar selling 80 a year still counts); it’s new, or bows out, in its first or last year on sale.
Favourite colours are of each year’s Minis still being tested in the latest year: the cars that survived, not all those sold.

Where Minis live
By the postcode area of the test centre. DVSA’s open data doesn’t name test centres, so this is as close as it gets to a Mini’s home.
Minis per 1,000 MOT tests
Each circle is a postcode area, sized by the number of Minis tested; darker means Minis are a bigger share of cars there.
