Reading the map
- Plug-ins are battery electric, plug-in hybrid and range-extended vehicles of every kind, not just cars, licensed at the end of the latest quarter.
- Only privately kept vehicles count. Company vehicles are registered where the company is, often a leasing firm's office, so about half the UK's plug-ins would pile up in a few places.
- Public chargers are counted on the latest date. Most plug-in owners with a driveway charge at home, so few public chargers per plug-in doesn't always mean charging is hard.
- Councils are each small area's best fit. Populations are DfT's, from ONS mid-2024 estimates.
